Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, May 25, 2017, Representative Colleen Hanabusa, Ranking Member, Federal Lands Subcommittee, House Committee on Natural Resources, joined 85 colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in a letter to Secretary Zinke highlighting Congress’ long-established legal authority over national monuments and other federally protected sites. The letter, a copy of which is attached hereto, notes that the executive branch lacks authority to rescind or substantially reduce the size of any national monument. The letter was sent by Representative Grijalva (D-Ariz), Ranking Member, House Committee on Natural Resources, on behalf of all those who signed the letter and share the concern.
