Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Hanabusa joined the Hawaii delegation, along with eleven other Members of Congress, in calling on the Acting Secretary of the Navy, Sean Stackley, to retract the current Navy process for requesting exemptions from the Federal hiring freeze for positions in shipyards and implement a clarified and simplified public shipyard worker exemption process.

Congresswoman Hanabusa:  Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard’s highly skilled workforce is mission essential to our naval fleet’s readiness and, as a result, our nation’s security.  I am optimistic the Acting Secretary of the Navy can find a way to break down and eliminate any obstacle to the full and immediate hiring of shipyard workers for vacant positions and the retention of the existing workforce in our public shipyards.
